Sausage Bread
This sausage bread recipe was handed down to me by my grandmother, Jacquie. I fondly called her Gram when I was a kid as every time I'd stay at her house, she'd make me a cup of tea and plate of Graham crackers in the morning. I think of her each time I make it. I no longer measure anything out when I make it, but I will share with you the recipe she always used as a guide for making it.
Ingredients
1 loaf of frozen white bread dough (I always used 2 instead of one)
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 pounds of mild ground Italian sausage
1 cup grated Swiss cheese
2 teaspoons dried basil or Italian seasoning
3 Tablespoons Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
2 eggs
Directions
- Let bread dough rise the night before according the package directions.
- Brown sausage and drain; allow to cool.
- Add all remaining ingredients except for eggs to sausage.
- Roll out dough and shape into a rectangle.
- Spread sausage mixture onto dough and roll up, sealing ends.
- Place in greased pans and allow to rise for half an hour.
- Beat eggs and brush on top of loaves.
- Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.
